From Angelou, Baraka, Walker, Morrison, Baldwin, Butler, to N.K. Jemisin (The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms), Kiese Laymon (Heavy), Saeed Jones (How We Fight for Our Lives: A Memoir), Darnell Moore (No Ashes In the Fire) and many others, Black authors and their writing have been integral to the collective conscience of history. In honor and respect for the necessity of not only Black writing, but Black people, Penguin Random House and Target are uniting to elevate the voices of Black authors via their online book retail outlet. Now more than ever, there is a need for the expressions and words of BIPOC authors, to tell stories that fully encompass the humanity, history, uncomfortable truths, and necessary imagination offered when the world is at stake. This partnership with Penguin and Target will make an expanding range of works by Black, Indigenous, and POC authors more easily accessible to those wanting to explore classic Black authors like Toni Morrison and contemporary authors like George M. Johnson (All Boys Aren’t Blue).
